Fitness Challenge Finale celebrates 5,057 pounds lost!

The Fall River Fitness Challenge held its 2009 Finale at the Eagle Restaurant on May 9th celebrating the conclusion of the four-month series that began on January 10th. Over seventy-five participants and their supporters got to her remarks from Fitness Instructor Amy Jones, Mark Kruger from the NBC television show "The Biggest Loser, 2008 Challenge winner Daryl Parrent and Healthy City Fall River coordinator Dr. David Weed.

Easter egg hunts bring kids out at the housing developments

The annual Easter Egg Hunt was organized on April 7, 2009 by Fall River Housing Authority Family and Youth Services Director Joey DaSilva, at the Pleasant View development in the City's North End. Easter Egg hunts are organized for children in eleven Housing Authority developments during the weeks prior to and just after the Easter holiday. 

Creating Peace One Piece at a Time

Conference highlights need for policy and structure change

The Tufts University’s "Children In Balance" (CIB) program, which is replicating its successful Shape Up Somerville childhood obesity prevention project in Fall River during a two-year study, sponsored a morning conference entitled "Healthy Fall River By Design" on March 19, 2009 at Government Center. Keynote speaker Mark Fenton set the stage for exploring ways that the systems, policies and environments in Fall River could be altered to better promote healthy living.
