Did you know food pantries run out of food, and some families don't have a stove /oven to prepare it? What happens when the gas gets shut off? What if they don't own a can opener?

Zumba Fitness Classes
If you havent tried Zumba now is the perfect opportunity to do so. I will go over basic rythms and dance moves at the begining of class which will maximize your work out!
This class will take place every Wednesday through out the summer. Stay fit while partaking in summer indugences.
Every one is welcome - all ages and abilities. Lots of folks say they cant do it because they have no rythm or two left feet but once they try Zumba they forget about their inhibitions and join the party!

Ingredients:
¾ cup Apple Cider
¼ cup Water
2 tbsp Honey

2011 Fall River Children's Healthy Heart Festival
The 2nd annual Fall River Children's Healthy Heart Festival will be held at CD Recreation on 72 Bank Street, Fall River from 11am - 2pm Saturday, February 12, 2011. Admission is free.
The festival aims to educate children and their families about holistic and healthy options for life. The last festival gathered over 400 members of the community and donated 2 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to local youth-serving organizations.

FRFC Wk 1 (Aruba 2012?)
Jay kicked off our fitness challenge this week in a big way!!! He lost 6 lbs without even trying!!! :} Let's see what he can do with exercise!!! Rhonda lost 3 lbs- Great job Rhonda and I lost 1 lb, boo to me!!!! I have to catch up with my team!!! Also go my BF to join our team this this. Can't wait to see what's in store for us!!!

Seton Academy for Girls Zumbathon Fundraiser
3 Hours of Zumba with 10 Instructos is sure to be a great night. Of course you do not have to participate for the full 3 hours there will be raffles and prizes, not to mention the event is for a good cause! The goal is to raise a significant amount of funds for Seton Academy for Girls the only all girls school in Bristol County. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children. Hope to see you there!

Keep Track of Your Fitness Challenge Progress

The Fitness Challenge is on! Challenge participants will weigh in twice per month at one of the designated weigh-in locations (continue weighing in at your first weigh-in location). The Challenge runs through May and includes ongoing events to help keep you on track. The Fitness Challenge website has a calendar of all Fitness Challenge events and weigh-in weeks.
Your weigh-in location will track your progress for you. However, if you would like to track your progress on your own, you can do so using MyFallRiver.org. Just click "create an account" over on the right, and create a username and password if you haven't already. Be sure to join the Fall River Fitness Challenge group to report your progress confidentially and to keep up with everything Challenge-related.

Fitness Challenge Team Member Tracking
- Enter the team member's name followed by the member's MyFallRiver.org username (if an account exists). We encourage all participants in the Fitness Challenge to create an account.
- Next select the date of the weigh-in followed by the week number. Week numbers correspond to the weeks of the Fitness Challenge.
- Finally, enter the weigh-in weight and click "Save" at the bottom.
The Diabetes Association
The mission of the Diabetes Association Inc. is to improve the health and well being of the communities that DAI serve by advancing diabetes prevention, early detection and disease management.The Diabetes Association Inc. holds a plethora of programs for adults, youth and families. With offices located at 170 Pleasant St in Fall River and 26 Caroline St in New Bedford, there is always someone to assist with any diabetes questions or concerns. Staff are also available for one on one consultations.
Individual Spotlight - Matt Santos
Matt Santos and his wife, Beth, have been working full force since the start of the challenge. Matt is a diabetic and, with Beth, has be working diligently to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. He works in a kitchen and is around food all of the time. He conquers each day to the fullest and he and his wife are supporting each other each step of the way. Matt's look out on all of this is, "Fitness requires work and effort.
This Week's Fitness Challenge
The next Fitness Challenge is coming this Saturday, February 20. It will be at Industrial Park beginning at 9am. Each participant will choose their route at the beginning. You will be required to time yourself. The walking path at Industrial Park is a newly implemented walking path that opened this past fall. It was one of the many new walking paths within the city that you can take advantage of any day to help reach your Fall River Fitness Challenge goals.
Second Fitness Challenge Offers a Chilly 5K
The second Fitness Challenge, held on February 6, 2010, was led by CD-REC program director Jamison Souza who challenged teams and individuals to walk from CD-REC headquarters on Bank Street down the hill to Battleship Cove and then to walk the mile-long boardwalk to the Iwo Jima Memorial monument at Bicentennial Park and back to CD-REC. Over twenty-five Challenge participants took advantage of the opportunity to increase their fitness despite the wintry weather. Click here to see the web page and here to see the YouTube video.
