There is nothing so delicious as succulent fresh berries in the summer.  The best part is, these juicy treats are a valuable part of our optimal diet.  They promote radiant beauty, energy and vitality.
  • Strawberries combat stress.  They areStrawberries packed with vitamin C which helps lower circulating stress hormones like cortisol.
  • Consuming a 1 cup serving of strawberries 3-4 X per week will markedly reduce chronic inflammation.  Such inflammation is the root cause of many modern diseases including cancer and heart disease.  Go ahead and enjoy 1 cup daily!
  • Strawberries are fantastic sources of antioxidants.  For this reason, they have been ranked the 27th healthiest food in our North American diet.
  • Strawberries support a healthy weight. They are a nutrient desnse food that is low in calories and sugar, but satisfies the taste for desert. Strawberries have actually been shown to balance blood sugar when consumed with other sweets.
Granita is an light and refreshing shaved ice.  Forget artificially flavored store-bought concoctions; this sweet treat is the perfect hot-weather indulgence.  It’s easy to prepare and universally loved.  Try the basic recipe below, or get creative.  Add mint,  basil or lavender for a more sophisticated taste.

Each year, Leadership SouthCoast selects a doverse group of acknowledged and aspiring leaders to participate in a thought-provoking, 9-month community leadership program consisting of 2 one-day leadership workshops, 7 monthly full-day sessions and team projects in the community.
