Peace Pole Planting Day - UPDATED!

May 11, 2010 by Deborah Orlando

On Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 at Griffin Park, the Corky Row Peace Pole will be planted at Griffin Park to symbolize the Peace Poles that will be planted throughout the City of Fall River. Due to the inclement weather predicted for the day the ceremony will now be held a the Corky Row Club, 603 Third Street. There are over 40 Peace Poles being planted in the city. Representatives from agencies planting Peace Poles will be there to inform us of the languages on their Peace Pole and where they will be planted.

A Peace Pole is a handcrafted monument that displays the message and prayer "May Peace Prevail on Earth" on each of it's four sides, usually in different languages. The Peace Poles in Fall River serve as a visual reminder that the city is working towards Peace.

The first Peace Pole was planted by Mayor Will Flanagan at Government Center Center on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010.
